MANTEL ESTIMATE PROCESS

The Estimate & Design
I can use design elements from the mantel examples above or work from pictures you provide.
We'll mix and match so we get the perfect design for your home.
I'll then measure your existing firebox and give you an onsite estimate.

What we typically need in place for the estimate
Below are examples of what we need in place for us to measure for your new mantel
If you have questions or additional help with the initial design I can go over that onsite or by Email with you

Gas Fireplace Insert - located in wall
• If you are having a new insert installed that is typically done first.
• If you are updating the tile we need the tile surround installed.
• 12" of tile on the top, and 8" on the side for combustable clearance.
• The hearth is the section on the floor that projects out from the firebox
inserts typically don't require them but those would need to be done as well.
• Our mantel is installed over the tile.

Gas Fireplace Insert - located in existing brick fireplace
• If you are having a new insert installed that is typically done first.
• If you are updating the tile we need the tile surround installed.
• 12" of tile on the top, and 8" on the side for combustable clearance.
• The hearth is the section on the floor that projects out from the firebox
existing wood burning fireplaces all have a hearth, those updates need to be done.
• Our mantel is installed over the tile, and sits on the hearth.

Wood Fireplace Insert - located in existing brick fireplace
• If you are having a new insert installed that is typically done first.
• Wood inserts use a metal surround that covers the firebox.
• The metal surround provides the combustable clearance.
• The hearth is the section on the floor that projects out from the firebox
existing wood burning fireplaces all have a hearth, these inserts sit on the hearth.
• Our mantel is installed over the metal surround, and sits on the hearth.

Masonry Fireplace - traditional existing wood burning brick fireplace
• If you are having the brick re-surfaced that is typically done first.
• Covering the brick requires a clearence from the firebox using non-combustables.
• The tile or slab surround face used would be 12" top and 8" side.
• The hearth is the section on the floor that projects out from the firebox
the hearth re-surfacing would also need to be done with the brick facing.
• Our mantel is installed over the tile surround, and usually sits on the hearth.

Masonry Fireplace - if you aren't re-surfacing our mantel can be installed over the brick.

Electric Fireplace Insert- new fireplace
• If you are having a new fireplace installed the electric supply in done first.
• You would order your fireplace and have the specifications available.
• We build the mantel and install it.
• The surround is then tiled.
• The insert is installed into the mantel over the tile surround.

MANTEL PAINT & STAIN

Paint Grade, Primed and Installed
I do all of the prep work and sanding, brush on a primer coat in the shop then install the mantel.
You can then do the final finish to the colors you like or hire a local painter.
Installed and Stain Grade
If your finisher (painter) prefers to do the prep work we can install it, then they do the finish on site.
In the case of a stain grade mantel we install those and the finisher takes over or we can work with the finisher.
